I played with SSB a few times. It doesn't offer me much personally so I only used it for a bit to experiment. I like their hippie values: https://scuttlebutt.nz/docs/principles/

oh wow. this is the second time I see mention of scuttlebutt today. I've never tried it, but here's the other mention you may find useful. It's part 1 of a 3 part thread if you care to click through:

Setting up #SSB again and it's easy to see how while the fediverse has grown SSB remains obscure. The onboarding experience with Metaverse or Patchwork is about as user hostile as you can imagine. Installing #Patchwork via npm is the usual nightmare of nodejs brokenness, regardless of architecture. The AppImage works, but only on amd64 so if you are on a solarpunk ARM setup you're out of luck.

So battling through I eventually arrive at the UI and restore my secret (another piece of arcane knowledge). Can I connect to a pub? All the listed ones are either broken or offline, except one. Stoically refusing to be defeated I connect to the last public pub in the scuttleverse.

There's one address I can try to connect to. I try to connect but nothing really occurs. There's no username/nickname or posts. There appear to be 700 or so users on the pub but they're all just random names with zero content, and thus entirely incomprehensible.

If I were the mythological "normal user" frequently cited in certain channels at this point I would Log The Fuck Off, but I know that SSB is slow and it may take days to sync because this is a system which absolutely requires you to download the complete and utter history of everything that ever happened, which can be multiple gigabytes or longer.
