CalDAV – How to share events to a public calendar?

I want to create a public calendar which shows shared events from different HZ channels.
If the HZ Channels are on the the same hub the sharing of the events can be done by CalDAV but how can I show all the events automatic also public in one calendar?

In ideality the sharing of events whould also work with HZ Channels which are on different Hubs… is there a chance that this will work in the future or will this never work?

The SabreDAV library the project uses has a built-in client library. So there's no need to add another. Authentication could be a bit of an issue, but I believe the CalDAV server is OpenWebAuth enabled. You probably don't want to be storing passwords for all the calendars you want to access.

I've used dokuwiki. I actually LOVE it. Would love to basically make it a Hubzilla addon at some point (replace authentication/permissions scheme). Maybe someday when I'm rich and can afford to pay devs instead of doing everything myself, LOL.

Hm true - so OpenWebAuth will to the job?

I was thinking, if the task can´t be done with HZ than an other CalDAV sever/clint of an other project could be used to pull all the different HZ Calendars to one together – will have a look at dokuwiki..

So I tested dokuwiki and indeed it works like you said… I can pull different HZ Calendars into one and make them public … but I need to know all the passwords of the HZ accounts… so this is the situation Mikes hint aimed to…

With your help I found a simple working solution…

dokuwiki can show different CalDAV sources in one calendar.

In order to do that, the username and password of a HZ account /channel with a CalDAV Calendar have to be transfered to that place where the evens will be published – but we don´t want to give away the login details of a main HZ channel just like that… so we create a new extra HZ account and a new Channel just for a CalDAV Calendar and share all the evens from the main HZ channel to this HZ channel we just use for sharing the CalDAV evens… For that HZ Channel we give the login details to the dokowiki admin.

I think the idea of publishing a "consolidating" calendar, which is combining entries coming from different sources, could be implemented within the hubzilla architecture, with a little adjustment of the source code. For that, we would use public events entries instead of caldav entries. We already have the option to publish public events coming from other channels on a "consolidating" channel: When logged in as the consolidating channel, I use the Hubzilla app /sources to add channels whose posts I want to be shown also on this consolidating channel. For now, public event posts are shown on the wall /channel of the consolidating channel, but not yet on the calendar /cal.
Our academy uses Hubzilla to inform about the courses we offer. We have a consolidating channel called "info", but then there's also channels like "courseA", "courseB", "courseC" and so on. "courseA" would provide its time schedule of classes on /cal/courseA and so on. "info" adds the other channels as sources. On /cal/info, we could have then the overview of all classes.
We would gladly support the development of this feature and of recurring events (not caldav) with a open-source bounty of 100 $.
P.S. In our case, we use successfully caldav calendars as well, which we sync with our devices. The channel "info" shares one caldav calendar for each room of our academy with every academy staff (which has a hubzilla channel). These caldav calendars, containing the room reservations, are for internal use only and can be edited by all staff from any caldav client.

A well, it also would be interesting to have an option to automatic sync a caldav calendar with a channel calendar.

Here's a patch that demonstrates what I think you want to achieve in 'consolidating channel calendars'.
Backup your current file at Zotlabs/Module/Cal.php and replace it with the attached file. To undo, restore the backup file.
If you can, only use it in a test environment.

Of course it's very clumsy and only tested for showing the events of channel calendars of an account, as a proof-of-concept.

To use it, open cal/<nick>
